#10 light up your face with gladness

010/365 light up your face with gladness, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

Today was a dreary day. Our town had been swallowed by a cloud that made everything greyish white, almost colourless. What’s more, I had over 60 essays to mark waiting for me, which didn’t actually help to lift my spirits.

Then, unexpectedly, emptying our recycling bags at the local bin, I noticed something unusual hanging from a tree. What on earth could it be? Somebody had carefully hung this red Christmas ball on a branch by the main road!

It instantly brought a smile on my face, and luckily, thanks to this challenge, I again had my camera with me. Serendipity! The old Nat King Cole song started playing in my mind.

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

I love the idea of 365 photos over the year! What a great memory to have looking back years to come of what you experienced in 2010!

I also love this image as well, with the ornament in the tree.

I will definitely be following your blog and will be curious to see the images that will appear over the course of the year. : )

I am doing something similar with my blog. I am writing a reason to smile everyday for the course of 500 days (a year and a half). So that will be an interesting journey as well.

    Stay camera happy. 🙂

      Hi Amelia
Nice to meet you, and thank you for your lovely comment! I want to have a look at your blog, too. A reason to smile every day sounds such a wonderful idea!

That’s lovely. Those unexpected things make me smile. If you want to feel better about your gloomy weather, think about how we still have 36 degrees celcius in Australia at 11.48 pm! So hot! Our plants and trees have been burnt in 40 degree heat, and there is fire danger in places. Hope it cools down soon.

Thank you for your greetings, Tania! What opposites our climates are! I hope you won’t have any dangerous fires again – we have seen newscasts about the vast bush fires in Australia many times.
Today the temperature rose considerably, only about minus 4 Celsius. It’s actually quite nice to go out now, although it is still very dull and grey.
We should send some of our cold weather to you in exchange to some of your heat.
