#152 kesäkuu – ‘summer month’

June 1st. The next lesson of Finnish month names.

June for us is KESÄKUU.
kesä = summer
kuu = month (actually ‘moon’, since a month would be ‘kuukausi’, literally ‘moon period’)

Nice and easy, no explanations needed. For me, summer in June means green lushness, blue skies, flowers of all different colours, shapes and sizes, warmth, beginning of summer holiday – and lots of bugs, too.

I was looking all around for butterflies and hoping to get a nice close-up picture of one on a beautiful flower, as that would really have represented summer for me, but unfortunately this time it was not to be. Will have to keep trying through the summer.
