108/2011 headlines

108/2011 headlines, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

I don’t think I have heard so much talk about politics ever before! Even our students, who normally are totally uninterested in politics, kept talking about it all day. A big change in our Parliament – the number of MPs of one small, previously insignificant, party suddenly soared from 5 to 39, in a 200-member Parliament. People are dumb-founded. There is protest in the air.

Even I bought a tabloid at the supermarket – something I never do otherwise!

Your post made me look up the election to see the situation. It also looks like your country is moving to the right (somewhat like Canada). Here it does not bode well for the arts, for social programmes…

The frightening aspect of our latest election result is that there is a strong, intolerant, anti-immigrant faction in our Parliament now. Such attitudes don’t bode well for anything in today’s world!
