January 3, 2011
Pheww! I did it! Managed to get all my 365 pictures in 2010. For most of the year, I was even right on time with the daily postings, which I am especially proud of. It was only during my longer journeys abroad that I got behind, and then had to patch things up when back at home. However, I did keep taking at least a photo a day all through the year, even though at times the uploading was a bit delayed.
In 2010, I also got involved in the Daily Shoot, but only got round to posting 264 of them. Still, quite an achievement from a first-timer, I think. In this new year, though, I have decided to give Daily Shoot a miss. Towards the end, I found it rather time-consuming, and want to focus on other things this year.
Here are my tags from 2010:
Nature, weather and all the seasons feature a lot – unsurprisingly. I am particularly pleased about the set of Finnish month names that came as a ‘by-product’ of my 365 photos. Also travelling seems to be a popular tag – two journeys to Singapore, one to India and Christmas in England. Not bad for one year’s adventures!
I did learn a lot about photography, and got to try different settings on my camera. Still an awful lot to learn, though! It seems that the more you learn, the more you realize how little you know about photography. It’s a very rewarding challenge. During last year, I have also changed my cameras. My previous Canon broke in Singapore. The new one I bought there, is almost the same – a Canon 450D. I gave my PowerShot to my daughter, and got myself a small Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3, which is handy to slip into my handbag, and deals with even fairly dark circumstances quite nicely.
More than anything, though, I am happy about the community I found in the edtech365/2010 Flickr group. Thanks to this challenge, I now have a wonderful group of contacts in Flickr, whose photos I enjoy following tremendously. We may be from opposite ends of the world, which is often fascinating, but we share surprisingly much in common, too. I have been lucky to meet many excellent role models – Marie Coleman, @colemama, being a real inspirator! Thank you everybody I met last year, once more! You have encouraged me to go on for another year of sharing, learning and widening horizons. One of my new year’s resolutions is to write better and more regular comments, and keep the interaction alive in the edtech365/2011 group and in your respective blogs.
And last but not least, I am so happy that my initial inspirator from last year, Tania Sheko from Australia, has decided to embark on another daily photo year, after a breather last year! It will be fun to see and read her daily posts.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all, and happy snapping!
