119/2011 the royal wedding

119/2011 the royal wedding, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

A nice afternoon with lady friends, watching the grand ceremony in London, with pink bubbly, English tea and other goodies.

Let’s hope, the new bride will have a brighter and happier future than her late mother-in-law!

048/2011 surprise!

048/2011 surprise!, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

Class of 2011 left school with a bang, to then start studying for their final exams at home. Amidst their end of school festivities, fancy dresses, tricks and shows, to make teachers and younger fellow students remember them, seniors also decorate (or mess up?) the building. This was part of this year’s shenanigans. Quite a cute surprise!

045/2011 <3

045/2011 , originally uploaded by rosipaw.

Red chocolate hearts, glowing in the late afternoon sunlight, wishing Happy Valentine’s to loved ones and friends.

The mirrored image, on the shiny top of our piano, reminded me of the essence of love and friendship – what you give, will soon be reflected back to you.

#365 cheers!

365/365 cheers!, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

I did it! Got my 365 photos in a year (although must admit that I’m still sorting out 3 pictures from my trip in India in November, but the pictures where taken on the right days, and will appear shortly.)

Time to celebrate the end of the year, and the year-long learning journey. It has been really rewarding, sometimes hard, too, but definitely worth every bit of effort! Thank you all new friends and acquaintances I have made through the year, for your support, interest and comments. It’s the interaction that really is the best thing.

See you in the new year 🙂

#359 christmas day

359/365 christmas day, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

A lovely day spent at home without any rush. Lond leisurely brunch opening presents by the tree, and then getting Christmas dinner on its way.

Granny always makes an extra effort with her gift wrapping – and had even got a REAL Christmas tree for us, which is not the norm over here in England as it is back at home.

Ever since our daughter was born, we have always had two Christmases – Christmas Eve spent followint the Finnish traditions, and eating Finnish food, and then an English Christmas Day. Our daughter really has had the best of both worlds – with even two Santas! Recently, we have mixed the two traditions a little at home, but at granny’s it was a genuine English celebration.

#358 christmas eve

358/365 christmas eve, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

While family and friends in Finland enjoy Christmas peace at home, life is still busy here in England. After last-minute shopping it’s time to go down to a pub for some holiday cheer.

Some pubs go over the top with their decorations. This particular one was like Santa’s tinsel grotto! Great change from subdued styles back at home.

#340 happy 93rd birthday finland!

The Finnish Independence Day, on December 6th, is a very solemn, serious celebration. The tradition is to put two blue and white candles at all your windows, and light them from 6 to 8 pm. It’s nice to go for a walk then, to see all these candles flickering in the dark.
