#282 relax!

282/365 relax!, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

What better way to unwind after a hectic week than a relaxing evening at home with good friends! Candle bokeh in the dark garden – looks a bit like colourful flowers.

#253 start of the weekend

253/365 start of the weekend, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

Friday again – how do the weeks seem to disappear so quickly? Lovely evening to go round town, enjoy the riverside lights, and drop by at a couple of bars.

I and hubby enjoyed sitting in the new bistro-style riverside restaurant (outside picture here) in the autumn evening ambience. The new trendy decoration is to stick candles into paper bags! Looks pretty but I do hope the bags have been treated so that they won’t catch fire easily.

There is something comforting in lighting candles in the darkening evening, and wrapping yourself in their warmth.

#225 orange sunset

225/365 orange sunset, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

The first week of school has been so hectic, and I have been so shaken out of any routine that I have only managed to think about my photos in the evening.

This evening I climbed up to the rocks behind our house to wait for the sunset, hoping for some unusual colours at least. It wasn’t spectacular, but still pretty. With the sun, another day and the first working week disappeared behind the horizon. Good night world!

#202 darkening nights

202/365 darkening nights, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

As much as I love the long light hours of early summer, there is also a magical charm in the darkening nights at the moment. I try to stay up to experience every second of the rare, dark moments when it’s warm around here, as, mostly, warm and dark outdoors never coincide up here in the north. It’s lovely to light colourful lanterns in the garden and enjoy their flickering glow.

When I was younger, I used to long for some time in central of southern Europe every summer, to be wrapped in the romantic and exotic warm darkness around me in the evening. With the warming of the climate, we do get a few rare instances of that even here now.

#200 precious evening light

200/365 precious evening light, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

Just noting the quickly shortening days now. This picture was taken around 10 pm. In less than a month, we have already lost over an hour of daylight! Today the sun rose at 4:40 am and will set at 10:33 pm – making the length of the day 17h53mins. Compare to the summer solstice, almost a month ago

I don’t want to wish my time away, but we are clearly moving towards autumn now.

#141 riverside by night

141/365 riverside by night, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

After taking our Indian guest on a steam boat trip to one of nearby islands, the sun had already set when we came back at 11 pm. It was a gorgeously calm and warm evening with the lights reflected on the water.

#137 evening by the sea

137/365 evening by the sea, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

Calm after a short thunderstorm, our shores of the Baltic Sea give a promise of the pleasures of summer ahead.

A wooden jetty by the sea or lake, where the only sounds you hear are just gently lapping water and various birds, is the perfect place to unwind and meditate. I wish I could have stayed there forever.
