283/2011 ready for winter

283/2011 ready for winter, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

Balcony boxes have been filled with sturdy heather to bring some colour to the winter whiteness. I liked the layers of colour – the grey of the wood against the pink, with the evergreen hedge and yellow autumn leaves in the background.

282/2011 precious morning light

282/2011 precious morning light, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

The colours of the autumn leaves really shone beautifully when backlit by the morning sun. Mornings are damp and crisp now. Won’t be long before the first night frosts, I think.

281/2011 autumn on the balcony

281/2011 autumn on the balcony, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

The autumn palette is my favourite, when it comes to colours. The warm browns, oranges, reds and yellows really appeal to me, year after year.

280/2011 by the fire

280/2011 by the fire, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

After a long long day of work and in-service training, what bliss to come home, kick back and wind down by the blazing fire that dear hubby had prepared for me. Candles and all. Autumn isn’t all misery and gloom!

279/2011 unplugged

279/2011 unplugged, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

Deep peace of the running wave to you.
Deep peace of the flowing air to you.
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace of the shining stars to you.
Deep peace of the infinite peace to you.
– Celtic blessing –

Enjoyed an evening of folk music, Celtic harp and British story telling. A bit of simple, and still so powerful, old folklore is nice in the middle of all the modern electric buzz.

278/2011 mushroom picking

278/2011 mushroom picking, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

I usually “pick” mine at the market place. I don’t know enough about mushrooms to venture into the woods to look for them. Might cook something poisonous!

Friends who do proper picking say that this autumn has been exceptionally good. Especially with these golden yellow chantarelles, which make a delicious sauce! Today they looked particularly tempting in the bright sunshine.

A nice glass of red wine warms you up nicely on a windy autumn evening.

275/2011 SNOW??

275/2011 SNOW??, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

Glanced out of the window, and saw this. I had to do a double take as I first thought it really was the first snow!

Luckily it wasn’t – only our neighbour washing his car. After yesterday’s heat, the temperature dropped almost 10 degrees in one night. Who knows how soon the first snow will fall!

274/2011 evening calm

274/2011 evening calm, originally uploaded by rosipaw.

Just before sunset. A mirror-like surface of the river. Still enough light to see the autumn-coloured trees on the left bank. A brief moment and atmosphere, digitally captured. Not quite as intense as it looked in reality.
